FAQ
Chimney Sweeping and Inspection questions
Short answers about how the referral works and what to expect from a provider.
How does this work?
Send the form with a few details about your fireplace, stove or flue. We share your request with an independent local provider, who contacts you directly with availability and a quote.
Does it cost anything to ask?
No. Sending a request is free and there is no obligation to hire anyone.
How much does a chimney sweep cost?
National cost guides put most jobs somewhere between about $130 and $730, depending on the guide, the kind of fireplace and what the provider finds. Quotes vary, and a provider who sees the job gives the real number.
How often should a chimney be swept?
The National Fire Protection Association's standard calls for chimneys, fireplaces and vents to be inspected at least once a year. Whether it needs sweeping depends on how much you burn and what the inspection shows. A provider can advise.
Do I need an inspection if I only use a gas fireplace?
Gas burns cleaner, but vents and flues can still block or corrode. Several national sources still recommend an annual check. Ask a provider what is right for your appliance.
I am buying an older house in Lawrence. What should I ask for?
Ask a provider about a camera inspection of the flue before closing. Our guide on inspection levels explains what each level covers.
Can I clean the chimney myself?
Chimney work means roof access and fire risk, and a missed crack can be dangerous. The Chimney Safety Institute of America says chemical cleaners are not a substitute for mechanical cleaning and inspection. Ask a provider before trying anything yourself.
Which areas are covered?
Lawrence and nearby communities listed on the service area page. Providers confirm coverage for your exact location.
